PLEASE READ! Message-ID: <4F1785BB.8010703@antir.sca.org> Due to a loss of data on my hard drive, I need to rebuild my warranting list by the 15th of February, so I can sent it up the chain to Laurel Sovereign of Arms. I would ask that *all* members of the College please get your name, title, membership number and expiry date to the person you report to so that it may come up the chain as part of their reports so I can comply with Laurel's request. For people in the Principalities, that would be your respective Principality Herald (Bleu Grael, Sanguinarius and Silver Yale) or their designated reporting deputies. For those in the branches comprising the rest of An Tir, that person would be Demi-Lion Herald. If you are a Kingdom Herald, such as Lowenmahne, Lion's Blood, Dexter Gauntlet etc., or a Herald at Large / Herald Extraordinary, you may report to either Demi-Lion or myself directly. If you are a a deputy to a Kingdom Herald, such as Lowenmahne, Lion's Blood, Dexter Gauntlet etc., Please report to your Kingdom Herald. We are creating another position within the College and need ideas for a title. The position is much in line with the Queue Forchee Herald of An Tir, in that it is for an outgoing Silver Yale to hold for a time after they step down in order to be there to assist the incoming Silver Yale when required. I'm greatly opposed to having people come into an office such as this with no 'safety net' so to speak. So thinking caps on, let me know your ideas. Keep in mind it has to be conflict checked and follow the rules. In Service, Caitrina Silver Yale -- "Quarterly gules and sable, a winged fox sejant argent." If the argent mountain's base-most portion is wide enough that the base doesn't lie on the field at all, that would avoid the azure-on-azure problem, but would then need to be specifically blazoned, *at the least*, and may not be "issuant" at all. ~~Basil Dragonstrike Peritia zmaragdus est; sapientia adam?s est. From deraaf at atelierderaaf.nl Mon Jan 2 06:08:40 2012 From: deraaf at atelierderaaf.nl (deraaf at atelierderaaf.nl) Date: Mon, 02 Jan 2012 14:08:40 -0000 Subject: [tirrigh-heralds] SCA heraldry Message-ID: <012f01ccc958$034b3ff0$09e1bfd0$@atelierderaaf.nl> My lords and ladies, sirs and madams, I would respectfully like to steer your attention to part of my heraldry website here: http://www.atelierderaaf.nl/html/sca.html I am a professional herald and heraldic artist, as well as a graduated medieval historian, specialised in medieval heraldry. The pages in this corner of my website show some of the solutions I have devised for some of the problems SCA heraldry poses. As an example I have redrawn some arms of a few of my friends who are SCA members. They have given me permission to put these examples on my pages and are very happy with my restyling. I could also do them for your members and make really medieval looking arms for them. They will fit exactly with their chosen period, even pre 1125. Besides this I have also made some proposals of clearer, less cluttered Kingdom heraldry: http://www.atelierderaaf.nl/html/kingdoms.html. I know that the present arms have a long tradition, but perhaps you can see that, while preserving the crown and wreath around the shield, the central charges become much more significant. They also acquire a more medieval 'look'. I am fully aware that it will take quite some getting used to these kinds of changes, but I would be glad if you would only consider it. Any comment is of course welcome. Furthermore, I have shown some ways in which SCA members' arms could be adapted for flags in a really medieval manner: http://www.atelierderaaf.nl/html/flags.html. Lords may have real period banners and knights similar pennons in this way. The combination of about 35 years of acquiring heraldic knowledge and experience in the art of heraldry puts me in an excellent position to be a consultant on all things heraldic. As you may see from my price-list, drawings you might want to order from me are very reasonably priced because I can do them on the pc: http://www.atelierderaaf.nl/html/armspricesusd.html and http://www.atelierderaaf.nl/html/flagpricesusd.html. Please feel free to ask for more information; your mails will be promptly answered. Faithfully yours, Henk C.
