Further to this, I just looked up 'silver (adj.) in the online MED
(Middle English Dictionary which is at
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://quod.lib.umich.edu/m/med/lookup.html">http://quod.lib.umich.edu/m/med/lookup.html</a> for those who don't know).<br>

The description at the top gives the variations: <font face="Times OE"><font
face="Times OE">"(a) Made of silver; <strong>~ foil</strong>; <strong>~
plate</strong>, coins made of silver; <strong>souen ~ sede</strong>, <i>fig.</i>
to give bribes; (b) like silver; lustrous or gleaming like silver; also
<i>fig.</i>; <strong>~ scaled</strong>, with silvery scales; <strong>~
worm</strong>, a glowworm; (c) <i>her.</i> argent; (d) in surnames and
place names [see Smith <i>PNElem.</i>2.119]."</font></font><br>

I found (c) interesting as it mentions being equivalent to argent in
heraldry. Under (c) I found: examples of the word 'silver' used in
heraldic blazons including in the field (so it's not just referring to
a charge made out of silver).<br>

We just registered "Silver Pillar Herald" (Dec 2009). The use of
"Silver" is also grandfathered to Tir Righ for both heraldic titles and
order names.<br>

However we don't have to rely totally on that since the May 2008 Cover
Letter states: <i><br>
"Silver</i> in order and award names: The August 2005 cover letter
says that "orders named for heraldic charges or for items that, while
not found in period as heraldic charges, may be used as heraldic
charges...may contain the ordinary color names of any heraldic
tincture." This includes the use of <i>Silver</i> as the ordinary
color name of <i>argent</i>."<br>
