We tested out 5 different folding styles of vademecum and 3 different styles of stitching, and have settled on what looks to be the best 2 combinations for the upcoming largesse project. One will be an accordian-style fold suitable for a perpetual calendar/date-book with extra pages in the back for notes. It will have one-piece sewn-in cover which can be tied together at the bottom for protection. The other is suitable for any number of uses. I'm afraid the decision as to whether to do a slide cover or a bound cover is still up-in-the-air on this one... we've some time to make up our minds yet. I'll be folding and sewing a few more examples and mailing them out to West and South Hartwood before the weekend is out. :) Next stage: Finalising text selections, choosing a typeface, and finding volunteers to do the typesetting. With this project it is not necessary to do all the stages of a single vademecum - help anywhere along the process is valuable! (Later we will be looking for people to do very small illuminated initials, marking and cutting paper, folding pages, sewing the books, sewing the covers.) Should anyone be interested in participating, please contact your local A&S coordinator. West Hartwood: Symonne South Hartwood: Scathach North Hartwood: Cecille While the adults were working on the vademecum project, Joye and Miranda were in the kitchen working on the Youth portion of the largesse project under the auspices of Family Activities. They're doing the test batch for period 14th century oyster shell paint palettes. The finished piece is edged in gold paint and presented in a cloth bag with a small printout of the history of the item. As a potential gift, it seems very representative of our Island home, yes? The girls spent much of the evening scrubbing and boiling shells. Once the test batch is completed, Joye will be sending out examples and detailed plans to South and West Hartwood for the Youth there to get involved in some beachcombing and crafting for this project. Parental or adult involvement is necessary for parts of the process. Happy New Year and happy creating to you all! - Cecille -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... We have our delayed Dec meeting in Errington at the usual place, 11 to 2pm. I would like to see the Quarterly and Doomsday Reports from the Officers. Please email them ahead of time if you are not coming or send them by a deputy to be read. Last quarter we had a couple of problems so if I may suggest that when you send them up the line you ask for confirmation. I know Halima can do that and she can share this arcane knowledge with those of us who are still amazed at how the little words travel thru the ether. This meeting we want to have event proposals for the current year available for discussion. I know the finance committee needs to view them as well but just having dates approved would be good. Our Lady Exchequer will be wanting budgets from Officers at this time. Imagine all the things your office will be called upon to do this year and consider what sorts of items you could possibly ask the shire to pay for. Again, the financial committee will pass it`s beady eyes over these requests. If you want something put on the agenda, email me and I will add what I can. You may also include a note in your report to "Let me know if you get this." If you get no answer in 48 hours, re-send your report again, and again until you -do- get an answer; after a week, you might want to phone your officer to ensure you have the correct address. With snail mail, -call- after 4 days to see if they have received your report. It's worth the effort! A song from our area would most likely be written by Her Ladyship Reann (now of Seagirt) or Her Ladyship Elizabeth. Though we do have other song writers, these two are the most prolific, so I think they are your best bet to ask about it. I don't think Reann is on this list though. Just an update for Daffodil. We still have space available, and there's one additional note. There will be power at the site, although it's STRONGLY discouraged from using it. The building is lit very well and there is already heat inside, so there isn't much need for it. However, if you do decide to use it, there's an added $10 for access. Again, if you or someone you know would like to be a part of the Daffodil this year, please contact me or send an e-mail to Daffodil_35 at shaw.ca. This is the event site that will be able to answer most questions. http://members.shaw.ca/daffodil35/ Merchants will want to look at this page initially. http://members.shaw.ca/daffodil35/merchants/merchants.htm This is the site itself, and how to get there. http://members.shaw.ca/daffodil35/site/site.htm Again, feel free to contact me or the event's e-mail regarding questions. Hope to see you there! This topic is clearly emotionally charged for many people, whether for or against the change. We do not have clear direction from a majority of participants based on either the Census data or the correspondence received to date. The Board therefore solicits commentary on the following potential language change to its governing documents in hopes of eliciting commentary and direction from the membership: Current language: Each competitor in a Royal Lists must be fighting for a consort of the opposite gender. Proposed Language: Each competitor in a Royal Lists must be fighting for a consort of the opposite gender. Crowns may permit entry into the Royal Lists by same-gender couples. Comments on this proposal are due by April 1, 2012. Please use the title "Same-Gender Consort Proposal" in the Subject line. Comments are strongly encouraged and can be sent to: SCA Inc. Box 360789 Milpitas, CA 95036 You may also email comments at lists.sca.org. This announcement is an official informational release by the Society for Creative Anachronism , Inc.
