Job description: Branch Herald

?? The branch herald is responsible for promoting heraldry, helping branch members find suitable names and devices, and if needed providing voice heraldry at shire events.

?? You don?t have to be able to do all of these things, just make sure that you have someone who can.? 
?
?? For instance if you are a book herald?you can have voice deputies to do field heraldry and court or if your primary talent is voice you can have a book deputy.? 
?
?? Remember there is plenty of support for either book or field heraldry. 
?

?
It is important we fill this office as soon as possible.
Please note that all officers of the Shire must be SCA members.

Emyris, our good Master of Stables, has stepped down from his office as he is moving. We are in need of an immediate replacement. 

This is a senior officers position and is responsble for all marshal activities within the branch including heavy, fencing, and archery. Good news is we have a new chief archer and are currently working on the fencing aspect of things. 

I have one applicant for the position already. If you are interested in applying for this position please advise me immediately (before Sunday June 3rd at 3pm) as I will have the majority of the officers at my house for archery practice.

i. Local officers are appointed by their superiors as kingdom law provides
ii. Local officers must not be substantively opposed by the people of the branch
iii. Final decision regarding their tenure rests with their superior officers and

Greetings Fellow Hartwoodians,

I must apologize for dropping out of everything so suddenly.  My Mother has 
recently died and I needed some time to deal with my loss as well as the 
many things involved when these things happen.
I am now back from Kelowna, but because I was off so long, I have a major 
backlog at work and only one day off this week. As soon as I can I will be 
publishing the newsletter and getting back to my normal self.

My Mom's name was Mary Elizabeth Hannah (Maria was name after her) and my 
SCA name was take from her second name and her mother's maiden name.  I was 
privileged to have such a loving and good person in my life and I will miss 
her.

So glad the weather held off (and actually warmed up) as there were quite?a number of personal bests shot tonight. Cecille a 24 at 20 yards, Joye with a total personal best of 64, Aline just getting warmed up with her new puplehart and yew longbow and she pockets a 79. John, Charles, and Cunegunda continued to work on form but still shot very well.

Hello all!

I am just messaging in to ask about how many children often attend these
Hartwood events of ours. I haven't been to many that we have held yet and
am curious as to the numbers of children/youth that normally attend. That
information will help me to know what kind of activities to plan for
upcoming events (Such as Armada!). So, basically, I am wondering how many
children are in the Hartwood SCA, and how many from out-of-shire normally
make the drive up to our events.

Good afternoon everyone,

Sorry for the short notice. This Sunday after archery practice we will be having our monthly Hartwood council. This is normally a skype meeting and we are trying to coordinate skype sites in Nanaimo and Port Alberni and will confirm shortly is this has been accomplished. 


In the mean time the meeting is at 1996 Maple Drive, Black Creek.?

What happens at council?

- We review the previous meeting minutes,?
- We hear officers reports about all the great things going on, 

- We review upcoming events in our Shire (approve dates against Kingdom/Principality, review budgets and such)
- We review upcoming Principality/Kingdom events that are in need of a good home. 

- We review officer statuses (such as offices needing filling or postings if someone wants to fill an office),
- We review any new business. 



If you are unable to make council or if we have issues with the usual skype locations please send me any information you would wish to have put on the agenda.

Will the Skype meeting be "voice only"? We have had past issues where  
any rustling at any node will blank out the audio from all the other  
nodes, when we include visual transmission.

I've ordered six dozen 30-35#?blank shafts from a new supplier in the states. The price seemed more reasonable than some of the sites I researched. Once they get here and I get the "real" bill (taxes, delivery, border costs) I will let you know what they cost.

I asked Tyee Marine about shafts for an 18# bow and Rick said he  
expects an order in at the end of July. This is very exciting!

Halima, when I was at Tyee, I was told they wouldn?t be ordering them, but it seems like a case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing!  I?m glad that it seems that they actually *are* coming after all.

Breaking Armada News!

Information on the Armada Boat Race has just been released.

*Armada Boat Race:*

*2 categories: *

1. Shaped Boats
2. Flat-bottomed Boats

Boats will be divided into heats, according to number of entries, and run
until a winner in each category has been decided or left afloat.

*Boats:*

- may be constructed out of any materials
- may not be powered by any means other than sail
- may be constructed prior to event. Must be constructed prior to launch of
first scheduled heat.
- period-like design design preferred. Obvious modern designed boats
disallowed:* ie. no cruise ships.*
- must float
- must sail unassisted from start to finish line ? *no helping!*
- boat owners are responsible for launching and retrieval of their own boat.
- all ages compete together. * Parents are responsible for safety of
children. River may be fast-flowing.*


Looking forward to seeing you at Hartwood's Armada on the weekend on Aug
10-12 up in Courtenay, BC at Camp Gilwell.
