I have one crash space that is already claimed - by Danielle, as it happens - in order to ensure there will be food at the event. :-). I will of course billet Magenta, her student and her dog if there is no other option...but to do so, I will have to re-arrange the house and acquire two more beds, so naturally I am hoping there is another alternative. Unfortunately, since I have antique furniture, I don't have the usual couch space etc. available. Be there, or be... well, missed. Opens with a Council meeting right at 5pm. Tickets for Yule (Dec 1st, in Nanaimo) will be available. Saturday, Nov 17th, 5pm - 9pm (Setup at 4:30) Lighthouse Community Centre, 240 Lions Way, Qualicum Bay Adults, $5. Youth & Children, $0 ------------------------------------------- Please Join us for a casual evening of conversation, music, games of reason and chance. Bring a snack to share, a game to play, a song to sing... but most importantly, bring your good company! Please note, this is a dry site. No alcohol will be permitted. There will be a short council meeting beginning promptly at 5:00PM. Lets be on time, so we can get it out of the way! I'm asking $5 at the door to cover the room rental. Youth and Children are free. ::: Directions ::: Lions Way is just off the old highway, south of Bowser and north of Qualicum Beach. If you're driving on the inland highway, the simplest thing to do is: - Take Horn Lake Road to connect to the old highway - Turn left and travel north for a bit (If you pass Casa Del Mar Motel, you've gone too far) - Take a left onto Lions way. You'll pass by the ambulance and fire station, followed by the hall on your right. Plenty of parking! ------------------------------------------- ~ Cunegonda/Danielle -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... A car accident blocking the road from Port Alberni was just salt in the wound. :( Really missed everyone from over there, except Zoran and Marcus who actually braved the roads anyway! Thank you to those who showed up, I really enjoyed the company. For those who weren't able to join us, there are a few things mentioned at the meeting folks should know: 1) Yule (in Nanaimo, Dec 1st) is only two weeks away! Some Potluck dishes we're still looking for include: Winter Salad: Slaw, Bean salad, a Barley dish, Garlic butter, Lemonade, Dessert Tarts. Tickets available from Elspeth, Cunegonda, or Marina. Contact Cunegonda (me!) to reserve a potluck dish, or tell me the choices are lousy and you have a better idea. :) 2) The next Council meeting will be a skype meeting on Thursday, Dec 13th. To keep our bandwidth from totally choking, it's best if people in the different areas get together at a local hub. 3) The shire needs to get together to discuss a proposal to change shire borders and perhaps split groups off. There will be a general meeting on this topic Sunday Jan. 27th, time and place TBA. 4) There will be another games night! Hopefully with less sickness going around. Feb 23rd was the date selected by people there. "Strange that one whom I have described hitherto as so timid and easily put upon should prove such a Tartar all of a sudden on the day of his marriage." ? From Samuel Butler's 1903 autobiographical novel The Way of All Flesh ? ? ? Originally, their name was "Tatar," not "Tartar." Since at least the 1200s, the Tatar people have lived in Asia and Eastern Europe, and they were among the fiercest fighters of the Golden Horde of the Mongols. In the 13th century, they rode with Genghis Khan and became the terror of their day. Their name, "Tatar," is believed to come from Persian or a Turkic language, but in Europe it was associated with "Tartarus," the Latin name for the part of Hell reserved for the punishment of the wicked. Because of that association, English speakers began calling the Tatar people "Tartars." Over time, "tartar" came to be used for anyone considered as ferocious or violent as the Tartar warriors who had once ransacked the ancient world. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... "Cloistered for debate prep at a resort in Williamsburg, Va., the president devoted his weekly radio and internet address to the Obama administration's work to revive the U.S. auto industry." ? From an Associated Press article by Nancy Benac and Kasie Hunt,October 13, 2012 ? ? ? ? ? ? ? "Cloister" first entered the English language as a noun in the 13th century; it referred then (as it still does) to a convent or monastery. More than three centuries later, English speakers began using the verb "cloister" to mean "to seclude in or as if in a cloister." Today the noun can also refer to the monastic life or to a covered and usually arched passage along or around a court. You may also encounter "cloistered" with the meaning "surrounded with a covered passage," as in "cloistered gardens." "Cloister" ultimately derives from the Latin verb "claudere," meaning "to close." Other words that can be traced back to the prolific "claudere" include "close," "conclude," "exclude," "include," "preclude," "seclude," and "recluse." -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... How about Courtenay? :D ~ Danielle/Cunegonda PS: Are you sick of my Yule reminders? One last one, I swear! Please, everyone remember to bring your own serving dishes and utensils. :) And drive safely! This happens to be a fighter practice in South Hartwood (MKA Nanaimo)... and a really great opportunity for old friends to re-unite, and new friends to be made. I'm going down, even if I have to buy a bus ticket to do so... but I think it would be very, very cool if we organized some car pooling to go down together. We'll have some fighting to cheer for, socializing to do, perhaps we can get some of these fighter's lovely ladies out to chat with. I'll be trying not to tie myself in knots with a spindle... so there'll be comedy, anyway. I know we'll have just seen each other at Yule, but lets have one last Shire-wide hang-out before the end of the year. :D > > Mostly, I think it will be really great for these fighters to finally meet us all, and see us out supporting them in their work -- a lot of these guys have been practicing for less than a year, and are working hard to get all their kit together. If you aren't on the reserved list below and intend on coming, PLEASE contact* Valorie, Amber or Danielle to reserve or purchase a ticket ASAP. Likewise, if you ARE on the reserved list and have had a change of plans, please also let us know! Thank you.
