In addition to the dessert auction, the Prince and Princess will hold a table auction. Yes, thats right, you (and perhaps your lord/lady) may bid on the right to sit at the head table with the royal couple! Bask in graceful conversation and envious glares! Bring those doubloons! We're looking for things that went well and were enjoyed, and things that could be improved. Please don't worry about hurting feelings -- if we're going to improve our events and make them more appealing, we need to hear it all. :) So! Sextus and my thank-yous are long overdue. In truth, the event was a bit of a blur for me, and I've been staring at this list terrified we've forgotten someone. First of all, thank-you to everyone who came. It was amazing to have so many friends there, I wish I could have spent more time with you all. Thank-you to their Highnesses for gracing us with their presence, and to Master James, her Ladyship Glynis, and Her Excellency Lenora for advising me on what they may need. Thank-you to Lady Symonne. Without her, there would have been no event. Not only did she find and negotiate for the hall, handle ticket sales in Port Alberni, and act as a go-between for all the lovely volunteers over there, but she was the first one in and the last one out, by my side. From decorating to scrubbing floors, Lady Symonne was a life-saver. Thank-you to Tanja, Aetius' mother (whom isn't even a member), for cooking us that delicious meal. Thank-you to Master John and Hawa for teaching our crafts classes. Thank-you to everyone who donated something to gift their Highnesses. Thank-you to all who participated in my very first competition, the games tourney. I hope you enjoyed yourself, and congratulations to his Lordship Charles for taking the win. Thank-you also to everyone who has donated gifts for prizes in the past; her Ladyship Elspeth's hand-crafted game board was the perfect prize in this case. Thank-you to those who stepped up to fill a void, either because I mistakenly thought I had it under control, or because I simply didn't think of something: To Lady Erin, for those beautiful site tokens. To Archos Aline, for wrapping herself up in blankets to greet those who came in. To her Ladyship Elizabeth, for asking if I needed help in the kitchen and refusing to leave until I gave her something to do -- and also from keeping me from the edge of panic (which you may not have realized you did, but there you have it.) To his Lordship Lord Mischa 'what-do-you-mean-he-doesn't-have-a-goutte?!', for likewise assisting in the kitchen, training new servers on the fly, and then -kicking me out- when he saw me go glassy-eyed. To his Lordship Kjartan, for arranging the tables to go up and get their own food. (What do you mean, you don't want to all go up in one massive mob?) Thank-you to those who answered a call for help without a second thought: To Lady Prudence, for arranging that spectacular boars-head cake! To Azemar, his Lordship Zoran, Lady Symonne, Dave and Isaac, for helping to set up the night before. To his Lordship Zoran, for lending us those stunning tapestries. To Lord Roberto, Lady Symonne and Lady Fjorlief for handling the signs. To Sigurd, for bringing the food, and running to fetch margarine just before dinner. To her Ladyship Scathach, Sigurd, Stainslav and Mackenzie for serving the head table when I realized I wasn't going to be doing that after all, and to Lord Mischa for leading them. Thank-you to John and Aline, who, at great expense to themselves, forced me to sit down for the first time in hours. And eat! I ate. I probably would have forgotten that. And finally, it would be impossible for me to name everyone who stayed to help clean up afterwards. I think just about everyone did. I am so very grateful for the way everyone comes together to just get the job done! If you've managed to read this far, you have some idea of how much work goes into these things. It may even seem to be overwhelming. But look at this huge list of names, and know that there are people in this shire who can, and will, step up -- if only they know you need the help. On Sunday, we'll be reviewing proposals for events in 2014; most will be decided in January at our AGM. Please consider putting in a bid for an event -- if you need help with how to make a budget, let me know.
