From dbevan at topfloor.ca Thu Jul 4 00:53:30 2013 From: dbevan at topfloor.ca (Danielle Bevan) Date: Thu, 4 Jul 2013 00:53:30 -0700 Subject: [Hartwood] Embroiderers & Awards Message-ID: <803197BD-926C-48FD-8B78-E09987129DA1@topfloor.ca> Calling all embroiderers -- I have a project in mind for Fowl War that I'll need help with. If you're good with a needle and willing to stitch up a favour by August 9th, please drop me a line off-list! The issue of shire awards was brought up at council like, a year ago now? And we still haven't gotten around to figuring things out. I know that people wanted brand new awards, but seeing no movement on that front, I propose we adopt the old Stag Tag, which Mischa also brought up a long time ago, and people seemed positive towards. This is simply an award for fighters who have been carded and have their own armour, which is a pretty big effort all around. But there are other awards that we should consider -- service, A&S, fighting arts in general -- for archery, we already have tassels in place, for example. We can also promote other things we value, like people who consistently demonstrate a high level of courtesy and chivalry. Awards for children's achievements? I also think it's pretty important to have an award to recognize those from OUTSIDE the shire, who've made great contributions to us. I don't want to be that person who hijacks an idea as important as how we recognize those we value, but I really, really want to see this get going. :/ So why don't we talk about it, generate some ideas, and maybe bring it up for July council if possible? How far did we get the last time this came up? Please, please weigh in on this, even if your only opinion is 'don't care'. ~ Cunegonda From doerksen at island.net Fri Jul 5 13:00:39 2013 From: doerksen at island.net (doerksen at island.net) Date: Fri, 05 Jul 2013 13:00:39 -0700 Subject: [Hartwood] Fwd: Seagirt/Hartwood Newcomers Event Message-ID: <20130705130039.36381bq36smd09nr@webmail.uniserve.com> (Lady Sarah, please let me know if this comes through properly for you. I'm taking it upon myself to repost this here because I know Tatiana is away. Forgive me if I'm overstepping my bounds! Newcomers Event, July 26-28, Barony of Seagirt Come one, come all to the Island Newcomers event. The Barony of Seagirt and the Shire of Hartwood invite you to come out for the day or the weekend, bring your interested friends, meet some new folks and show them how much fun being a time traveler can be. There will be plenty to do for everyone. A full day of free TUTR classes is being planned for the newcomers (and anyone else who would like to attend). We will dance! We will play games! We will sing! We will fight! We will show each other some cool projects we are working on. We will hold court. There will be a friendly game of medieval football between Seagirt and Hartwood. And of course we will have fun! Teachers are needed: If you would like to teach please contact Mistress Halima. We would also like to organize some children?s activities. If you would like to take this on, please contact HL Tatiana . Fighters are needed! There will be prize tournaments for heavy, rapier and archery. The onsite A&S challenge will be chivalry handkerchiefs. White linen will be supplied. Please bring sewing needles, thread and scissors. Prizes are being sought from the island artisans. If you have something amazing you have made (or would be willing to make) and would like to donate for a specific contest, please contact HL Tatiana by July 15th. Artisans are needed! We will designate an area for you to work on projects on site. Newcomers will be given time to wander over and see what you are doing, and ask questions. If you want to participate in this, please contact HL Tatiana so we know who/what to expect. Please bring whatever you need for supplies. Raffle prizes are needed! The raffle will be for newcomers. Every hour throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday we will draw a name so someone can choose a prize. What kind of prizes you say? Well, anything you no longer need that is somewhat period and a newcomer would appreciate. This is an opportunity to clean out your stores of old (but serviceable) garb, bolts of fabric, feast gear, armour bits, etc. Fees: Adults $20 (No non-membership surcharge) Youth (16 and under) Free. Family Cap: $60 Schedule: The site opens Friday at 3pm, and closes Sunday at 3pm. An activities schedule will be available at Gate. The site is located in Cobble Hill at the Fairground.
