A&S: Been hearing that the Port Alberni area has begun to have occasional

Comox Valley et. al. has been working on solo projects and heraldic display. 
Getting to a point soon where we'll need volunteers to do embroidery 
piecework, watch the email list for details.
Taking applications for Minister of Arts and Sciences for the Shire of 
Hartwood.  Please send applications with pertinent SCA resume, full legal 
name, address, phone number, email address, and SCA membership number to 
John Macandrew by May 1st, 2013.
Please note that this position requires a minimum of weekly (preferably 
more) access to email, and phone accessibility.

needs to contact Aline to get senior archery marshal.  Food costs maybe be 
high? May need to be adjusted.

Just a few clarifications.

 

You cannot have a donut shire. So any change must leave a contiguous block of land joining north and south Hartwood.

 

According to Kingdom Law it should read ?a majority? of your officers must be from inside your borders.

 

The process going forward for an external border change is: the people in the affected area send a request to Hartwood council stating which areas (postal codes) wish to secede. IF council approves, a polling is done to all paid members in the affected area to ascertain their wish. If a minimum of 51% respond and a significant number of those are in favour a request is sent to the Kingdom Seneschal to make the change.

Subject: [Hartwood] Dye Workshop in the Comox Valley

One privilege of having the Comox Valley Art Gallery as a client is I get to wander the dark, empty gallery while Dad is dealing with their computers. There are quite a few lovely displays at the moment (Emily Carr Graduates, I believe), and one of them happens to be exhibiting 'Wild Extractions', the results of foraging for local dyestuffs. Part herb-lore, part practical lab experiment, the books contain ink sketches of the plants, a brief paragraph on the history of their use amongst First Nations and Settlers, techniques used and swatches in wool, silk and cotton/linen blend.

The display is on for the next 4 weeks, in addition to a workshop happening this weekend:

Workshop: Saturday May 11 from 1-4pm,
Workshop: Cost is $30 (pre-registration required)

May Council will be held in person this Sunday the 19th at the Lighthouse Community Center in Bowser, 1pm - 5pm.

As a reminder, nearly every seat on council is going through a change over. MoS, A&S, Chatelaine, Chronicler and Herald are all available, or coming available. We don't -have- to fill all the seats at the table, but it's nice. ;) If you care about the shire's activities, and want to make certain I don't approve spending our entire bank account on spinning tops, then please consider submitting an application to our Seneschal. (Don't panic, it can be a paragraph or two. What you -really- need is a membership, and a willingness to both learn, and sit on the Financial Committee.)

The Council rarely lasts more than an hour, but they rent in 4 hour blocks... so I suggest we come in garb, bring a snack, some games, some music, some craft projects, and hang out a little afterwards.

Getting to a point soon where we'll need volunteers to do embroidery

Hartwood.  Please send applications with pertinent SCA resume, full legal

John Macandrew by May 1st, 2013.

The photographers release form is still required, however, model releases

event steward. If site doesn?t pan out possible day in park.
2.    Ravens war: Received  Proposal:  9-11 August - $15 ? Estimates of  50 
people going may be high? After Tournament of Armies ? may be difficult. 
Events have had a lot less lately? 30 people more common. Event Steward 
needs to contact Aline to get senior archery marshal.  Food costs maybe be 
high? May need to be adjusted.
3.    Cunnegunda ? Tir Righ August Investiture ? put in a bid.  Possible 
site suitable for 200 people. Hall and field too.  Works out to 2./3 of 
typical cost of event. 23/24/25 August ? Like to submit a proposal ? 
Everyone agree.

It was an excellent council meeting yesterday. Not only did we get the work done but we spent a good bit of time in the sun looking at a site that would be perfect for Principality camping (or teaching) events.

We had a number of volunteers come forward for some of our vacant offices. As the paperwork gets filled out I will post the new names. Thanks everyone for stepping up and thanks to those who are currently holding offices. You are the backbone of our group.

Sealion starts this Friday! Seagirt's bountiful and lush sheep will be protected from Baron James' belief that a cull is in order. Think of the economy?  Think of the children?  Of course Seagirt does!  Wool to trade! Breeding stock for other needy shires!  Wool and meat for the bright future of the children of Seagirt.  (Although, I do not know this Vindaloo of which His Excellency speaks) Event details can be found at both http://www.antir.sca.org/Upcoming/?Event_ID=3186 and https://sites.google.com/site/sealionwar2013/home (this 2nd site has more detail regarding camping) Please join us at Mountainaire Campground.  http://www.mountainairervpark.com/index.htmlMountaire?s gates are closed at 10:00 pm as per their insurance regulations.  If you expect arrival after this time, there is camping available in the upper field.  Please contact Janet for further information. There will be a presentation by the Project Germani Historical group from 11:00 am-12 noon on Saturday at the archery field.  They will be presenting their form of combat, but as SCA insurance does not cover this, SCA participants are asked not to participate in the combat, spectating only.  Fires are permitted only in designated firepits (unless a Provincial ban restricts fires).  There is firewood available for purchase on site. Fire pits are not movable. Leashed pets are permitted. There is no water point, but most campsites have their own water spigot (the spot across the lane will have one if you do not).  Make sure to bring water with you to the war field or archery range. I had hoped to go hang out at this but - as I feared - with the company's
annual conference next week, I have enough extra projects on the go to make
this a working weekend. 
I may slip away from the computer long enough to don a costume and pay a
brief visit.

Need decision this weekend please: 


Earlier I had posted that I had acquired some green table skirts via
Freecycle and offered some to the Shire. 


Folks indicated interest but I now need a firm number - I haven't counted
them but I have less than 20. I will pack up and deliver the desired number
of skirts where ever needed .... along with some other items for the Shire
... but they need to be claimed NOW because next week is the annual company
conference and any left-over skirts will be going there for distribution.
(Company colours also include green.)
