In addition to our gifting tree (small items hung on the tree for someone to choose as they like), we're going to put together a basket of items as a personal Yule-gift for her Highness. Some background: Apparently, prior to her reign, she hadn't been playing for 10 years! Thus she lacks many of the basics -- though obviously her Head of Ret has been amazing in supplying her with beautiful new garb, and I don't doubt the entire Principality has been generously showering her with things both beautiful and useful. She's an artist herself, and has a love of anything hand-crafted. If you would like to donate something to the Yule-gift, please send me a private email to let me know so I have some idea of who's doing what. I am specifically looking for items members have personally made. Closer to the day, please tag your item so she knows who made it. :) And on top of all of this, we are going to be doing a dessert auction, proceeds to the Travel Fund. The idea is that some of us will donate a dessert we've made (should be enough to serve 8), and various tables will pool funds to bid on them at the end of dinner. Again, if you think you can donate to this, please send me an email. Full copy with a schedule and menu will be out soon! November 24th. Though council is open to any and all, there tends to be a core group of people that show up on the regular, and many others seem to avoid it. That's fine! But it severely limits the number of people we have volunteering for things. Specifically, running events. We have several events in line for 2014 (We need a few just to maintain shire status.) These are: April 12-13th (Traditionally a TUTR) September 12-14th (War; site pre-determined. This is our Tier 1.) Nov 22 (Our 'winter' event -- Yule/White Court/whatev) Our August event has been traded this year for Investiture. Our Financial Policy says these events must have a rudimentary budget by December. But budgets usually get at least one push-back for edits (This is normal! Not personal!) which means we -actually- want to see your first draft by November. I also want to make it clear that we are in no ways limited to the above events. If you have an event you really want to put on, propose it. Just, propose it on Nov. 24th. Please. Yes, even Yule 2014. Especially Yule 2014. And if you're allergic to council, then email me the proposal and I'll bring it up. Also something to consider, the three events mentioned above are what fund our yearly expenses. This includes shire-owned items like Iron Key, a pavillion for Gate, and hall rentals for our meetings. We really do need these to happen, guys, but if we get no Stewards stepping up, they'll have to be cancelled. If you have any questions about putting together an event proposal and budget, please let me know. ~ Cunegonda From doerksen at island.net Tue Nov 12 12:37:48 2013 From: doerksen at island.net (doerksen at island.net) Date: Tue, 12 Nov 2013 12:37:48 -0800 Subject: [Hartwood] Fwd: [Steps-Announce] [Announcements] Newcomer's Portal Launch Message-ID: <20131112123748.74142ucvy10v62l8@webmail.uniserve.com> FYI... and share with newcomers! I want to buy a product from Opus that is unavailable in Nanaimo and I don?t want to pay the $15 shipping when I only want $10 worth of items. I think it would be easier if the kind person would purchase the items then I would reimburse upon delivery, plus a little surprise for their generosity. This way it wouldn?t be dependant on when my paypal/mailed check clears. The item is 25 11x14 plastic bags. I?ll give a precise description to whomever helps. I live in Nanaimo about 2 streets over from the ?new? highway and can give a map and simple instructions.
