We are hoping to announce soon that we will be opening a practice archery range in Nanaimo. In order to facilitate this, the Shire needs to have junior marshals willing to attend and supervise the shooting. 

To accommodate this requirement this coming Sunday, May 18th, at 1pm we will be holding a TAM class at 1363 FIELDING ROAD in NANAIMO. This is a four hour class that covers range set up, equipment and personal safety, range procedures, SCA Archery rules, and scorekeeping. 

If you have your SCA membership and successfully complete the end of class testing you will be issued your Junior Archery Marshals card. 

Please bring your archery equipment as we will be doing equipment inspections and some shooting.

*SITE INFO*:

*DIRECTIONS*: For all areas except Vancouver Island, make your best  
way to Vancouver BC. From Vancouver BC, take the ferry from Horseshoe  
Bay to Langdale. Drive approximately 1.5 hours, easy driving time, to  
Earl's Cove ferry terminal. Take the ferry to Saltery Bay. Coming off  
the ferry follow Highway 101 heading north towards Lund BC for 51.5  
km, turn right at Craig Road and SCA sign, then left into Craig Park.

Note: There are two ferries to get to Powell River from Vancouver, but  
you only pay for one.

 From the Vancouver Island (Comox) ferry, go straight off the ferry to  
Marine Avenue (2 blocks). Turn left at the light, follow Highway 101  
north towards Lund BC for 19.8 km, turn right at Craig Road and SCA  
sign, then left into Craig Park.

A Dirty Half Dozen Donation Derby will be held Saturday, June 14th at June
Coronet!  Donation Derbies are a great way to help your principality in a
fun and personal way. All donations are greatly appreciated and much needed.
To enter just send your name and the name of your donation via email to HL

The basic rules for donating (and competing):

*	All entrants must create 6 items based on a theme that are suitable
for largesse (example: 6 needle books, 6 hats, 6 items games, etc. Not: 6
socks - those would count as 3 items)
*	All entries must be tagged (what is it, what is it made of, and who
made it, the area you're from) and ready to be gifted the day of the
competition. For example "Wool Nalbound Hat created by Lady Jane Smith of
Lions Gate"
*	The items need not be documentable - this is not an Arts and
Sciences competition - but need to have value for a member of the SCA
*	The items need to be handmade.
*	The items should not have heraldry on them as they are meant to be
given to other areas.

JUDGING: The judging will be done by the 'beads in a cup' method. Each
person is allowed one vote which is done by putting one bead in the cup in
front the donation entry that you like the best

Now, the best part, PRIZES!! The winner of the Dirty Half Dozen Donation
Derby is the person with the most beads in their entry's cup. The winner
gets to select one item from each of the other competitors. So if there are
12 entries, the winner gets to pick one item from each of the other 11
amazing entries. There will also be a prize for "Prince and Princesses
Choice"

After all the prizes are given out, the donations that are left, will be
donated as largesse to the Principality of Tir Righ

Archery practice Sunday 1pm at Cunagunda's (yes, I'm seeing how many different ways I can spell her name). Initially one target will be used to set up Beanie's sights for her 25 meter shoot next weekend. The other target will be available for practice. Once the sighting is complete the royal rounds will begin. I think I will even bring one of the crossbows.
