On Saturday, March 14, the Barony of Seagirt will host a tournament  
and feast with a War of the Roses theme, so as you enter gate, you  
must choose which house you side with: York or Lancaster.

Whether they support the white rose or the red, the populace is always  
eager to see what you have!

If you would like to merchant at this event, please contact me by  
March 5 to reserve your table. There is no merchant fee for the first  
table, although you will be required to pay the site fee. Additional  
tables are available at $5. Please indicate the number of tables you  
desire when you contact me, and we will do our best to meet your needs.

The event runs from 9:00 am to 11:00 pm on Saturday, March 14 at the

Registration will soon be open, for the Spring University of Tir Righ 
session in Hartwood!  Classes will be held April 11 and 12, in Port Alberni, 
and Saturday's classes will be followed by a potluck feast.  Site fee is $20 
for the weekend.

Lighthouse Community Centre


Council will begin an hour earlier than normal, at noon, to accommodate a scribal class led by our Principality Scribe,  beginning at 1.

Everyone is welcome to join us for one, the other, or both. The class will be on painting charters for the principality, including some highlighting and white work techniques to spiff up your painting style. Practice charters will be worked on, and if you feel bold we have some real ones people can go home with.

(( Class fees for materials pending. ))

Those of us who have paint palettes and paintbrushes should bring them. Halima has a few paint palettes available for purchase still; contact her for details if interested. I will see what I can do about making coffee and tea available, but please bring your own mugs.

This is a forward regarding the Order of Valiance. There are links in  
the email itself that explains it in detail.

Please consider supporting this recommendation which will have  
far-reaching implications for all those in the martial arts (excepting  
those in heavy and rapier). If you support high-level recognition of  
skills in equestrian arts, thrown weapons, and archery, please  
consider sending an email to the directors of the SCA  
(directors at sca.org). Note that all future development of martial arts  
(except for heavy and rapier) will fall under this suggested Order,  
embracing future skills in which we may some day engage.

submitted the Order of Valiance proposal to the SCA Board of  
Directors. Now we must make the voices of the populace of the Known  
World heard before the April 18 board meeting.

Please email the Board at directors at sca.org, and ask that all your  
friends do so as well.

The Martial Peerage FB group has worked together in harmony to create  
this proposal; let's make sure that the tone of our emails reflects  
this and that they are positive and succinct.

The main point to cover is that you support the Valiance Omnibus  
Proposal as submitted to the Board. It can be that simple. The Board  
reads every email submitted, whether from the newest SCAdian or those  
who have been in many years. Your voice does count!

Adding your personal reasons is great, and if you do not participate  
in these particular martial areas, but are just a supporter, saying  
why is important. We want to show the BoD that there is widespread  
support for this peerage from the entire Known World.

This is not a time to be bitter or negative (as these kinds of letters  
are usually discounted). This is a time to look forward to helping  
make the Order of Valiance a reality.

Just a reminder that tomorrow we'll be having council at noon, with a scribal class afterwards beginning at 1pm. The class is informal, so garb is optional. Coffee and tea will be available, but you should bring your own mug, and something to nibble if you think you'll get hungry.

There is NO FEE for the class!

Students are asked to bring paintbrushes, gouache (or watercolour in a pinch) paints, a little cup to hold water in, and an eyedropper if they have them. If not, we'll share around.

For those planning to register minors in Rapier Combat:

Please make yourselves familiar with the ABCs -

Students must be 14 years of age or greater to participate in combat. Minors 
may train and authorize, provided these conditions are met:
The parents (or guardians) of the minor shall witness rapier combat, 
acknowledge that they are aware of the risks inherent in this martial art, 
and have executed a ?Minor?s Waiver and Informed Consent to Participate in 
SCA Combat".

At any event in which the minor is involved in SCA Combat Related Activities 
the minor must have either a parent or guardian present during combat, or 
must be in possession of a properly executed ?Medical Authorization Form for 
Minors.? The Medical Authorization Form must designate an adult that is 
present during the combat activity who has the parent or guardian's 
permission to authorize medical treatment in the case of an emergency.

Two classes are full!  Twining, the Making of An Amulet Bag and Modestly 
Coiffed: Intro to Veils, Headrails, Wimples, and the Cap of St. Birgitta.

Don't let this stop you from signing up!  Almost all of the remaining 
classes have lots of space left, with the exception of one.  Come out and 
have fun, while learning something new.

Greetings All

We have a wonderful list of classes available, with teachers coming from all 
over the Island, and as far away as Danescombe, on the Mainland.

You will find classes to help you get started in combat (Armouring & 
Rapier), classes to make your awesome inkle weaving even better (Inkle 
Pickup), classes to improve your event experiences (Period Glamping, Bardic 
Primer, Field Heraldry, & Personas).  String things (Knitting, Cording and 
Embroidery)! And skills with paper & pen (Uncials & Celtic Knot Drawing). 
The University has something for everyone.  See below for a complete list of 
classes with room still available for students (Twining & Modestly Coifed 
are full).
