You can do this! The Hartwood Bardic Championship: A word about our Bardic Championship competition, from our current Champion, Lady Gwynafel Farleigh: Hello Gentle Populace! Lords and Ladies, Yule is once again upon us, and as such, my tenure as Bardic Champion of Hartwood is coming to an end. This means there must be a Competition to see who can take the position from me! I call upon all that would challenge me to attend this great event and bring forward your Filks to inspire the populace to vote for you! What is a Filk you ask? A Filk is an old tradition of taking a favoured tune and put your OWN words to it. An example is Row, Row, Row your boat. New words: Chop, chop, chop our foe..... you get the idea. The rules: 1. The tune must be one that is recognizable. 2. You must perform at least 3 verses 3. It must have the word Hartwood in it. Do you think you can take the Bardic Candle from me? I DARE you to try. I hope to see you there! Please contact me at wmaiuro at telus.net by November 24, if you intend to compete so that I know how many we have AND how to space the competitors. ************************************************* Contact Information: Event Steward ? I also need to know how many tables they can cover. Yule will be a larger event than originally planned for. Anyone? In January, I will be stepping up as Seneschal. (Not there yet! I swear!) January is also our Annual General Meeting. Normally this attracts the same dedicated people that always show up to council, but I would really like to see as many people, old and new, come as possible. Though there is a bit of business to be had -- approving budgets -- this happens pretty quickly because all the drafts have already been looked over in November. Mainly I'd like to do some long term planning and discuss where the Shire wants to be in the next few months, year, five years. I'd like to hear what your interests are. I'd like ideas on how to tackle our challenges. I'd like people who haven't really interacted outside of their community to hang out with the rest of the Shire. I'd like some new ideas for events, for tokens of appreciation, etc. We'll talk about what resources we have, and what resources we need to grow. We'll discuss if we still aspire to be Baronial or not. Mostly I want an excuse to eat with friends and challenge Kjartan to a game of Tafl... so a meeting, a snack potluck, and a bit of socializing. My question to you lot is: What day is good? Can we get people to come to a Saturday meeting in the Bowser/Qualicum Bay area? Can we get carpooling going? We'll have to set the Date at the Nov. meeting, which is why I'm asking now. :) Thanks!
