Greetings!

How are your contest entries coming along? As I am unable to update the
Kingdom Calendar entry, most of the information for the evening is here. A
schedule will be posted, as soon as one can be finalized. I hope to see you
there!

Hartwood Yule and Bardic Championship

November 28, 2015
Black Creek Community Center, Black Creek, BC

The nights are growing cold, and we are turning more and more to indoor
pursuits! Please join us for a night of camaraderie, a Craftsperson
contest, games and a fun competition to determine Hartwood’s next Bardic
Champion!

The nitty gritty site details:
2001 Black Creek Road, Black Creek, BC
Site Fee $10. NMS of $5 applies.
Children and youth are free
Doors open at 4:30, Setup begins at 4:00pm.

Dinner is a potluck, with turkey and bread being supplied. Please list all
ingredients on a card or paper. The turkey is by kind donation of the
Gundas: Cunegunda, and Mama & Papa Gunda. (Milady Marguerite and Lord
‘Arold.)

As is our tradition, we will have a Christmas tree ornament trade. Bring
your ornament (or small gift - wee bag, book, whatever small thing can hang
in the tree) and hang it on the tree at the beginning of the evening. At
the end of the evening, if you left something on the tree, you then get to
take something from the tree.

The Competitions:

Craftsperson Contest:
This contest will have six categories, and be held at three levels.

The categories are:
- Leather
- Metal
- Wood
- Textiles
- Food
- Paper

The three competition levels are:
- Child (12 and under)
- Youth & Adult
- Members of the Orders of the Jambe de Lyon & the Laurel.
The winners will be determined by who wins in the most categories. Each
category will be determined by peoples’ choice. In the event of a tie, the
person with the most individual votes wins.
- Each person is limited to one entry per category.
- Entries must have been made within the year prior to the contest, and do
not have to be completed.
- Documentation not necessary, but entries should be plausibly period.
- Fairly new to the SCA? You can do this!

The Hartwood Bardic Championship:
A word about our Bardic Championship competition, from our current Champion,
Lady Gwynafel Farleigh:

Hello Gentle Populace!

Lords and Ladies, Yule is once again upon us, and as such, my tenure as
Bardic Champion of Hartwood is coming to an end. This means there must be a
Competition to see who can take the position from me!

I call upon all that would challenge me to attend this great event and bring
forward your Filks to inspire the populace to vote for you!

What is a Filk you ask? A Filk is an old tradition of taking a favoured tune
and put your OWN words to it.
An example is Row, Row, Row your boat. New words: Chop, chop, chop our
foe..... you get the idea.

The rules:
1. The tune must be one that is recognizable.
2. You must perform at least 3 verses
3. It must have the word Hartwood in it.

Do you think you can take the Bardic Candle from me? I DARE you to try.

I hope to see you there! Please contact me at wmaiuro at telus.net by November
24, if you intend to compete so that I know how many we have AND how to
space the competitors.
