You are awesome and I love you!

I am a Hiberno Norsewoman (Irish/Norse, a result of Norse invasions into
Ireland), still fleshing out my newly expanded persona. I am Lady Doireann
Dechti - called Dori - to my Gaelic friends and kin, and ƥorey Karrsdottir
to my Norse friends and family.

I have been in the SCA for almost 14 years, and have been a Gaelic persona
for most of that time. There was a brief foray into Italian, but those
corsets were just too much for me! My mentor's lovely lady, Baroness Glynis
hand-sewed me a Norse undergown and apron dress, which I cherish as my
favorite and most comfortable clothing. I then made a Norse tent, and was
gifted an awesome Norse stool from HL Kjartan. I realized that I was slowly
turning Norse, and wasn't sure what to do about that! Then I started
hearing the term Hiberno Norse here and there, and learned that this is was
a unique culture that actually existed, born of the Norse invasions into
Ireland, and my problem was solved. I could be both Norse and Gaelic, and
remain authentic, without a bizarre persona story! What I have learned is
that, while there are some names that cross the two cultures, generally, one
would be called two distinct yet similar names, by the two branches of their
family. Thus, Dori and ƥorey.

I have been passionate about heraldry almost since joining the SCA, so for
many years. I also very much enjoy painting, lampworking (very handy for
the Norse side of me!), painting, and woodworking, especially tourney
chests. Sayyida Halima once said that I will paint anything that doesn't
move. She stopped saying that when she found me contemplating her lord,
asleep on the grass at Ravenkey Castle, unmoving...

I reside in North Hartwood, and am more of the kitchen party type, being
kind of shy and all.

I am looking forward to hearing from other "partiers", including yourself
Lady Lizzie!

Lady Doireann Dechti/ƥorey Karrsdottir, GdS, Silver Pillar, l'Etoille
d'Argent, AoA
Protege to Master James Llewellyn ap Gruffydd
Branch herald, Shire of Hartwood
