[Utr] Sunshades

The THUA sunshades are made out of brown canvas pre treated tarps from "Princess Auto" The large tarps run about $200 and require no sewing, just wood to be cut and ropes and stakes. They have lasted very well, and overall THUA is very happy with them.
Owain and I have picked one up to make a sample out of for our shire (who have been wanting to get a sunshade), I'm getting the wood for it today and will see about putting it up (it's raining right now) I'll post the final costs, dimensions and a photo when I do.

As far as the easy ups, I agree that they aren't period, but they are so readily available and easy to pack that I think we (UTR) could pull a bunch together to borrow for a few events and tuck them in behind a nice canvas sunshade (as was done at t/a war) without ever having to commit to buying them if we don't want to (one or two might be nice though)
I'd interested in doing some fundraising towards the sunshade, I'm thinking printed book bags.

Hmm...

Err... I don't like to think of myself as a keeping-up-with-the-Jones kind of person but I'd prefer if we could do UTR canvas sunshades instead of the portable garages (I'm still sensitive from when Skeggi was reigning and called Tir Righ the 'White Trash Principality of An Tir')...

Ulf and I have used up the last of Tir Righ blue canvas to make a travel tent but if we had patterns I'd be ok making one of them here and shipping it out. I can volunteer with talking to THUA about their tents and getting a feel for what they like about them or don't like, etc. We could build on that knowledge...

Apparently bribes of chocolate work well. Although bribing myself was interesting. But tasty.

We also should have the approval of the rest of the financial committee (Their Highnesses and our Principality Exchequer).

If that is forthcoming, and everyone wants one or more of these purchased, I can do that. I have a credit card and I know how to use it.

However, things to consider before anything is purchased:

Who is going to store it/them?

Who is going to transport it/them?

I can buy it and bring it to Investiture, but could anyone bring it home? I could bring it back to the mainland, but where will it go?

Do we buy more than one and have one in the interior, one in the lower mainland, and one on the Island?
(Which returns us to...who is going to store them and transport them?)

Discuss. :-)

That seems like a good idea to me, provided we can convince that bee-atch of a seneschal to agree to it (and also to purchase the item with her Victoria-living juju). I don't think the walls and back would be necessary.

At AT War, THUA had several sunshades which I thought was a great idea. If UTR decides to follow THUA’s example, I think that might be an item for which we might consider fundraising. But we don’t HAVE to (Tir Righ didn’t make the Heralds go fundraise when they wanted money for consulting books. In fact, we upped what they asked for.)

On that note, my sister mentioned to me not 15 minutes ago that Canadian Tire had portable garages on sale (10 x 20). They were called "waterproof canopies" or something like that. White cover.

Cost: Roof and poles: $99.99
(optional) sides and back - additional $59.99

You might be able to talk the seneschal into approving the purchase for one or two, although I hear she can be a real bee-atch.

P.S. I don't know if that sale is local to Victoria or not....
